Our medical staff is dedicated to addressing the health concerns of our patients and to implement medical care that tends to the whole person. Our services range from general medical care, to specialized and state-of-the-art treatments. We offer the highest level of personal and professional service, and our highly trained staff is multilingual and committed to meeting all of our patients' needs.
Advanced Respiratory & Sleep Medicine (dba SleepWell Medical Clinic) is the portion of the office which specializes in sleep medicine. The sleep center is accredited by the nationally recognized Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC).
Our combined staff speak English, Spanish, Hindi and Tagalog.
Our staff's expertise gives patients the confidence, comfort, and assurance that they are in the best of hands. Sharad K. Dass, MD, FCCP, FAASM
Diplomat, American Board of Sleep Medicine Diplomat, American Board of Internal Medicine Diplomat, American Board of Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine Diplomat, American Board of Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine Diplomat, United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, Neurocritical Care Medicine Dr. Dass has speciality certifications recognized by national medical board examiners in several fields of Medicine. For several years, he has treated people with sleep disorders ranging from parasomnias, insomnia, sleep apnea, primary snoring, narcolepsy and more. In addition, he has excellent experience in a variety of pulmonary disorders like lung cancer, smoking cessation, pulmonary hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and asthma. He has been Medical Director of different entities and currently holds directorships for O'Connor Subacute Nursing Home, O'connor Intensive Care Unit, Sleep Well Medical Clinic. Dr. Dass graduated from Georgetown Medical School and completed his residency at Loma Linda University. Thereafter, he completed a combined fellowship in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC), UCLA and Wadsworth VA. Dr. Dass has been practicing in the Bay area for over ten years and is privileged at several hospitals in the San Jose area, including Good Samaritan’s Medical Center, O’Connor Hospital, and San Jose Regional Medical Center. 
Alex Studemeister, MD, FIDSA
Dr. Studemeister has been fascinated by microbiology ever since reading Paul de Kruif’s Microbe Hunters as a sophomore at UC Berkeley. His heroes include Edward Jenner and Louis Pasteur who dedicated their lives to medical science. After graduating from Loyola University Medical School in Chicago, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine in The Medical College of Wisconsin. Thereafter, he pursued his passion for clinical microbiology by completing his fellowship in Infectious Diseases back at Loyola University Medical Center, where he researched antimicrobial resistance. Having been raised in the Bay Area, Dr. Studemeister returned in 1988, and has been working in the field of Infectious Diseases ever since. In addition to antimicrobial resistance, Dr. Studemeister has had particular interest in the prevention and treatment of infections, and the optimal use of antibiotics in the hospital. He has pursued his interest in teaching thru his appointment as Adjunct Clinical Professor at Stanford University, giving lectures to medical staff and publishing case studies. His work in hospital and primary care medicine, as well as geriatrics, has provided him a broad range of experience applicable to improve the health and well-being of all patients. “This is an exciting and gratifying time to practice medicine as we have in our hands biotechnologies and processes that allow us to treat our patients more effectively.” Dr. Studemeister is available to see patients with infectious diseases in local hospitals, including O’Connor and Good Samaritan hospitals, as well as Regional Medical Center of San Jose, and in his part-time office practice. |
Visakha Goonewardena, MD
Diplomat, American Board of Internal Medicine Dr. Goonewardena has helped numerous patients while working as a hospitalist in several local community hospitals over the past decade. She has a wonderful hands-on approach with all her patients and is welcoming new patients to her outpatient practice. Over the past several years, she has treated patients with sleep apnea, insomnia and general medical issues. Dr. Goonewardena graduated from New York University Medical School and subsequently completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Mercy-Scripps Hospital in San Diego. 
Srilakshmi Vemulakonda, MD
Diplomat, American Board of Internal Medicine Diplomat, American Board of Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine Diplomat, American Board of Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine Diplomat, United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, Neurocritical Care Medicine Dr. Vemulakonda graduated from Armed Forces Medical College in India and completed her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Dr. Vemulakonda is the section chief of Pulmonary/Critical Care medicine at Regional Medical Center of San Jose where she has been practicing for the past 3 years. Dr. Vemulakonda is dedicated to providing high quality care to patients affected by pulmonary diseases or life threatening critical illnesses. "My interest in pulmonary medicine stems from my intense desire to relieve patients from dyspnea…when you cannot breathe, nothing else matters! My role as a critical care physician provides the fast-paced care for the severely ill while pulmonary medicine provides balance by helping me build longitudinal relationships with my patients." |
